Under the initiative of Tang Wenzhi and Cai Yuanpei, the Engineering Hall was established in the early 1930s with the support of alumni, such as Sun Ke and Li Zhaohuan. The hall was designed by famous architect Hudec and constructed by Voh Kee Construction Co.. As a structure with a prominent position in Shanghai's history of modern architecture, it was listed in the eighth batch of protected buildings of key cultural relics under national protection in 2019. The Engineering Hall, as the most modern laboratory and engineering teaching building in Shanghai and even in China at that time, was an important venue for experts, professors and academic groups to organize academic reports and lectures, which has helped to cultivate countless talents, academic masters, business elites and social backbone groups serving the country and nation. Today, the Engineering Hall has seen 90 years of splendor and is in urgent need of repair. When you drink water, never shall you forget its source; love your motherland and bring honor to your alma mater.
